Where to start stitching

Always start cross stitching at the centre and work outwards. To see the centre, find the point on the cross stitch chart where two centre lines cross. If you work this way you can be sure that when you finish your work your design will be centred on your fabric. Start your work with stitching the symbols which are the closest to the centre of the chart.

To be sure that you start exactly from the centre of your fabric, fold it horizontally and vertically. The point where folds intersect will be the centre. Not to lose this point, mark it with the pin or mark each fold with pale colour thread. Don’t forget that the edges of your fabric can fray while you’re stitching. So bind them by hemming or using a zigzag stitch on a sewing machine.
